What will the whole bill be?
A headline price can be just part of the bill. Put the medicine, the care and the ongoing fees on the same page.
Start with what the price includes
Separate the medicine from the assessment, any membership, tests, delivery and follow-up. Ask for the ongoing total as well as the first bill.
Many services for online weight care bill a membership fee each month, then charge separately for medicine. A small sample of national services advertised standard monthly memberships from $19.99 to $149. Those advertised fees were checked in September 2026.
That range is an example, not a quote for your care. Ask whether your service charges by the visit or by the month, and whether medicine is extra.
A dated cash-price example
Self-pay means paying outside insurance. If your question is about weight or diabetes injections, this example gives the medicine charge some scale.
Semaglutide is the medicine in Ozempic injection, used for type 2 diabetes. After the starter offer, the maker’s cash price was $349 for a month’s supply at 0.25, 0.5 or 1 mg strength. At 2 mg, it was $499. These prices were checked in September 2026.
The first two monthly supplies each had a starter price of $199. Only the 0.25 mg and 0.5 mg strengths were covered by the offer. The offer was for new self-pay patients aged 18 or older living in the US, through December 31, 2026. These terms were checked in September 2026.
You cannot ask insurance to pay you back for this offer. Its cost also does not count toward your insurance deductible. These terms were checked in September 2026.
Your deductible is the amount you pay before the plan begins paying under its terms. These medicine figures do not include a care service’s other fees.
Ask for the whole price in writing
- What do I pay for the assessment if no medicine is prescribed?
- Is the medicine included or billed separately?
- What do tests and results discussions cost?
- What is the ongoing charge after any promotion?
- Is there a commitment, automatic renewal or cancellation fee?
- What happens to the fee if care stops or the plan changes?
Keep the price and product questions together
FDA names the US agency that reviews medicines: the Food and Drug Administration.
A cheaper pharmacy-made medicine still has no FDA approval. Price alone does not allow a pharmacy to make a copy of an approved medicine that can be bought. For the named-patient pharmacy route, the prescriber must decide that a change in the medicine makes a significant medical difference for you. These rules were checked in September 2026.
With a compounded medicine, a pharmacist or doctor makes the preparation to order. Ask what medical need it meets before comparing its fee with a finished product.
